Any chance I get to photograph a surprise proposal; I jump on it. Capturing a proposal is just entirely different from any other genre of photography, there's a rush when it comes to these. All the planning, and trying to coordinate secretly makes me feel like I'm on a spec ops mission. Like weddings, there's no re-do, except this moment will only happen in the span of minutes, maybe even seconds.
With that said, I was super excited when Jayce reached out to me in hopes of photographing his proposal to then-girlfriend Katee at the Ritz Carlton over in Boston. Jayce actually found me through his friend, Ben. I shot Ben's proposal back in 2013 over in the esplanade, perfect example why word of mouth is the best! Jayce & Katee are from Minnesota, and were staying in Boston for the weekend. The plan was to bring Katee back to the hotel room, where I would be waiting to capture it all. The rest is history.
